Alexandre Dumas fils wrote the play La Dame Aux Camellias based on his relationship in Paris with Marie Alphonsine du Plessis – a youthful courtesan who died at the age of 24 of tuberculosis. A few short years later, Giuseppe Verdi made it a world-class opera. Our fall season opener welcomes the Kentucky Opera debut of soprano Elizabeth Futral and tenor Mark Panuccio and marks the return of baritone Donnie Ray Albert (OTELLO 2008) to our Brown Theatre home. Director James Marvel hails from the world of theater but has emerged as one of American opera’s most talked about young stage directors.
