Joined now by a team of maestros including renowned artist Pandit Shivkumar Sharma on the santoor (a sort of hammered dulcimer from Kashmir), Hussain will bring all the diversity and splendor of his heritage to the Bomhard Theater stage. Zakir Hussain talks about his rhythmic tradition and artists that have influenced him on the SFJazz Listening Party. Local band Neon Rain, formed by Governor’s School for the Arts alumni and Belmont music majors Vinay Shroff and Trevor Willmott, will perform pre-show music in the Main Lobby from 6:45 p.m to 7:30 p.m. prior to the performance.
