Outreach Programs
Arts Education Showcases: For 25 years, educators, librarians, parents, and others have discovered quality, pre-screened arts education programs in all art forms by attending one of several Arts Education Showcases presented across the state. All artists in the Showcase program must meet artistic and educational criteria in an audition/interview process with a panel of educators, artists, and presenters. As it has become increasingly difficult for teachers to attend live Showcase events, The Kentucky Center has begun partnering with Kentucky Educational Television (KET) and the Center for Rural Development to bring Showcase information to teachers via television broadcasts on Kentucky Educational Television teachers’ channel, and the Internet. Plans are underway for KET to broadcast Showcase performances and interviews in April of 2010. The Kentucky Center launched a new online Showcase Directory (www.artsedshowcase.org) in April 2008 which brings artist information, video performances and interviews, and a search engine allowing educators to find artists by art form, grade level, other subjects, and keywords. This website was developed for The Kentucky Center by the Center for Rural Development in Somerset where the performances and interviews are filmed. The new roster of artists will be featured on this website beginning April 1, 2010.
ARTIST APPLICATIONS can be found online at www.artsedshowcase.org. The deadline to apply for the 2010 Arts Education Showcase program (for both new and returning artists) is October 30, 2009. Auditions for new artists will take place on December 8 (performing artists) and December 9 (writers and visual artists interviews). All new artists, if selected by the audition panel, must be available for the Showcase filming in front of a student audience on March 2, 2010 in Somerset, Kentucky. Governor's School for the Arts: Bring two hundred of Kentucky’s most promising and accomplished young artists together for three intensive weeks of interaction, training and artistic exploration, and you have a formula for magic. High school students from every corner of the Commonwealth assemble each summer for this exciting program.
Arts Academies: The Kentucky Center will present four Arts Academies in partnership with the Kentucky Department of Education in June 2010. These hands-on weeklong seminars focus on Dance & Music or Drama & Visual Arts. They are led by master artist-educators who are experienced Professional Development trainers and who have a thorough knowledge of Kentucky’s core standards in their art form with connections to other content areas. Kentucky Public School teachers of grades K-12 are eligible to apply. Applications are due April 7. Click here for a detailed description and online application.
