Art-o-mat
The main lobby of The Kentucky Center for the Performing
Arts has been home to an Art-o-mat machine since February
2004. Art-o-mats are retired cigarette vending machines that
have been converted to sell original artworks from around
the world. There are 76 active machines located throughout
the country, providing exposure and promotional support for
around 400 contributing artists from 10 different countries.
The experience of pulling the knob and walking away with an
original work of art for $5 is a thrill. What an easy and
economical way to become an art collector! This project supports
the philosophy of our Education Department which promotes
access to the arts for all. Funds from Art-o-mat sales go
to support the artists and Kentucky Center Education Programs.
We hope you will have the opportunity to come by the Center
and experience the Art-o-mat machine. You can find our more
about the project online at www.artomat.org.
